Hiking is one of the most popular and enjoyable outdoor activities in the world and while the term is English in origin, nearly all the countries around the planet understand its meaning.  Differing cultures may refer to it as hiking, cross-country walking or even Nordic-walking.  However the principle remains the same.  In its most basic form it is nothing more than walking through the natural environment, either on hiking trails or via the many wonderful lowland paths that exist.

There are a wide variety of health benefits associated with hiking, mostly related to the cardiovascular system.  Hiking remains one of the best low impact ways to burn calories and raise basal metabolic rate and thus help to induce a fat burning environment.  Hiking is a highly social form of exercise; it is fun and you can go at your own pace.

Many of our clients feedback that hiking is one the most peaceful and relaxing activities they participate in.  The trails we use are simply breathtaking and they allow body and mind to heal whilst taking in some of the most beautiful scenery that Britain has to offer.  Allowing the body to escape from the pollution, traffic, and the other stresses related to living in an urban environment, appears to be a therapy in its self.  In fact, interesting scientific research is emerging that suggests that this form of exercise not only helps with relaxation but also increases memory function and cognition.
